:: Future Salvation

Isaiah 61, November 15th

Why do we live life the way we do? Why are we so negative about things? Anxious? Why do we conform? I’ve heard it said once that humans are hope based creatures. We live life based on what we believe the outcome is going to be and so with no certainty, life at the very least becomes superficial. Now, what if you could be certain that in the end things would turn out to be beautiful and perfect. That God would recreate things exactly how we wished they’d be. As we wrap up our City Pulse series this week I want to give you a snapshot of the future God has in store for us.

:: Saviors

Luke 4:14-30 | November 8th

Why do superhero stories fill us with wonder? Deep inside we all know that life is broken and that we can’t make it on our own. We have all felt helpless in the face of crisis. We need saviors. We long for role models, guides and warriors. So often we find ourselves either trying to be one or fabricating a savior that will never deliver us. In our hopelessness God sends his savior to us. This Sunday we will be looking at him, his accomplished work and what he wants to do in us.

:: Salvation

Psalm 62 | November 1st

Where do you go when your life hits the rocks? Everyone and every culture has a plan of salvation. A refuge to go to for peace and protection. This Sunday @ 11:00 a.m., together with pastor Felipe, we’ll be looking to the psalms to see/ experience what God’s place of refuge is, and what is it supposed to look like for us as a community of faith here in the city.

:: Humanity

Romans 3:9-31 | October 25th

Every culture has a certain belief about humanity and this belief will dictate they treat God, themselves and others. This week’s questions are: What do the people of Miami believe about people? How does that belief affect the way life is played out in our city?  And what would the Gospel have to say about all of that.

:: The Mission

Acts 17:24-31, Revelation 21:1-5 | October 18th

Statistics will show us that roughly 1000 people move to Miami each week and with each person that moves in or that commits to stay, there’s a personal mission. The conjunction of individual missions will give birth to an overarching city mission which could enhance community life or lead to its break down. This Sunday we will pose questions such as “What are we here for?”, “What are we to be working towards?”, “How does this affect life in the city?”, and “What does God expect of us?

:: The shrines

Acts 17:16-34 | October 11th

Two weeks ago the Catholic Archdiocese of Miami closed down thirteen churches. While clearly unchurched Miami is becoming more and more unchurched, Miamians are not devoid from congregating in shrines, they can’t. Basically, shrines are places in which we come together to worship something or someone that ascribes to us meaning, and we’re all searching for meaning.  If that’s true, what are Miami’s shrines and how do they reveal its people’s quest for meaning and significance? Come Sunday to find out. See you at 11:00.

A seed of religion is divinely sown in all.” — John Calvin

:: The gods

Acts 17:16-34 | October 4th

This week we kick off our [the pulse of the city] series by going after Miami’s gods à la the apostle Paul. You’ll be surprised how ingrained idolatry is in our culture and how it all starts with our own hearts.  For the next eight weeks pastor Felipe has two fingers on Miami’s brachial artery!

The human heart is a perpetual idol factory” — John Calvin
